The artificial intelligence

To start, we had to collect underwater images.  We have annotated these images. This step consists in drawing rectangles around the fishes and other species present on the images and to assign a label corresponding to the name of the species.

Then, we trained the artificial intelligence to recognize the different species based on the annotated images.

Finally, we tested the artificial intelligence on new images to evaluate its detection an accuracy performances.

Trawl steering

Once the species have been detected and recognized by the artificial intelligence, we must be able to pilot the trawl.

There are two possibilities :

• the detected species is targeted by the fisherman,
• the detected species is not targeted by the fisherman.

If the species is targeted, the artificial intelligence pilots the trawl to catch it, otherwise the artificial intelligence lets the species go.
